10 Questions with Tonya
1. How long have you been a part of the ROOST team
I have been in real estate for 12 years and joined ROOST in July 2019.
2. What’s the number one myth that you hear about the Real Estate market that you’d like to clear up?
A big myth is that Real Estate Agents make loads of money. Successful real estate agents certainly can make a very nice income. However, the amount of time, effort and money that top producing real estate agents need to continuously invest back into their business is significant.
Sometimes people think that if an agent lists a house with a 6% commission that all of that money goes to the agent. That is just not true. Here’s why.
The 6% commission is normally divided between the listing and the selling brokers. So, the company you listed your house with earns 3% at closing, and the real estate company that brought the buyer also earns 3% at closing. Each brokerage then splits their share of the commission with the agents involved. That can still be a lot of money of course but because real estate agents are independent contractors, they have to pay most of their own expenses including health insurance, fuel, car maintenance, advertising, cell phone, office equipment, supplies and often desk fees or office rent. On top of that, not every listings closes for a million different reasons. In that case the agent earns nothing but the business expenses remain.
4. In your opinion what makes ROOST a different kind of real estate company?
ROOST is willing to INVEST IN ME. They support MY PASSION of helping people make the big moves in their lives.
5. What is the one thing you would tell someone who is hesitant to list their home out of fear of the market?
People everywhere are looking for a home. There is no home exactly like yours on the market. As a matter of fact, there is a shortage of homes in the Nashville market. There’s no reason to hesitate – we’ve got this!
6. When you’re not working at ROOST what hobby occupies your time?
I love music, the creativity and intelligence it takes to compose great music amazes me. I also love walking and hiking. I have a dog who loves to go walking or hiking with me and my friends.
7. What is one thing that most people don’t know about you?
I grew up in Austin, Texas. I lived there well over half my life. Call me a ‘TexTenn’!
8. Coffee or Tea?
I prefer Iced Tea – no Lemon. After living in Texas for so many years I still have a big love for Mexican food. Tacos anyone?
9. Cats or Dogs?
Dogs.
10. Favorite movie? Sports team? Band?
Loved the movie Green Book recently. Sports team? The Titans are my favorite sports team and my favorite band is Queen.
